The Post-Graduate Department of Commerce started functioning with B.Com aided programme in the year 1993. M.Com and MTTM self-financing courses were started in 2002 and 2003 respectively. M. Com (aided) and B.Com with computer application(Self Financing) programme were sanctioned in 2013. The research centre of the department was sanctioned in 2018. The research centre has four eminent guides and currently, 14 research scholars are pursuing their research and 9 Researchers have been awarded PhDs.As a Research driven department, the department encourages and gives opportunities for students towards research and innovative practices. In addition to this, the Department has an MOU with the Government of Kerala to conduct a computer training programme of certificate and diploma courses, approved by the Kerala Public Service Commission.
The Department in collaboration with ISDC, a skill development and educational company having expertise in professional and vocational Education delivers US CMA to graduate-level students. US CMA is awarded by the IMA USA and is provided as a value-added course to build up the careers of students. The department also offers Accounting packages like Tally with Collaboration and certificate courses viz, PGDCA, ADCFA, and DEO, in computer technology and Department has also undertaken Computer studies in collaboration with IT Mission of Kerala (Rutronix), which offers P.G.Diploma, Diploma Certificate course in DTP.
The department understands the importance of charity and runs a charity program SHARE TO CARE which has served the needs of various students and stakeholders, whenever they were in need. The department has a well-functioning Commerce association which has been conducting all the events in the department. The department encourages its students to organize various activities through the commerce association, which helps the students to increase their creativity and prepare them for the challenges they have to face ahead. Many National and International seminars are arranged in the department which helps the students and faculties to gain knowledge on various topics. The department also provides career orientation in association with the career and placement cell of the college. The department is nurturing its students to be good citizens through all these activities.
