The PG & Research Department of Mathematics was established in 1955 with an undergraduate programme. It was upgraded to a postgraduate department in 1984, and later recognized as a research centre in 2010. The department aims to educate students in the expanding world of advanced mathematics and to prepare them for careers in its application and development.
The department currently has three research guides. Our faculty members pursue research in various fields of Mathematics, including Algebra, Graph Theory, Topology, and Applications of Mathematics, among others. They have published more than one hundred papers in national and international journals and have successfully completed five minor research projects. So far, seven PhDs have been awarded from the department.
The department is equipped with a well-furnished computer lab and a library housing 2,415 books and 11 journals. It conducts the All Kerala Mathematics Talent Search Quiz Competition every year for higher secondary students and observes various national and international days throughout the year. Students of the department have also secured top ranks at the university level.
In accordance with the directions of M.G University, the department has introduced the B.Sc (Hons.) four-year programme in Mathematics.
