Established in 1952 Catholicate College, Pathanamthitta remains to be the most important centre of higher learning in Central Travancore. It has been able to make proud and credible contributions in the social, cultural and educational field.
The department of Malayalam was started in the college in 1957.The Post Graduate course in 1965.The M G University recognized the department as a research centre in 1986. There had been galaxy of eminent teachers who served the department. It includes famous poets, novelists and other literary figures.
The department is composed of 8(8+1 for self-financing B.Com) teachers. Among them six of teachers hold Doctoral degree and two teachers are pursuing research leading to Ph.D. The department of Malayalam was selected as the course work centre in Malayalam of M G University for Ph.D course.
The teaching method is generally accepted as lecture method. The classroom teaching is live with discussions and teacher student interaction and also we practice ICT, group discussions and peer teaching.
The department of Malayalam has an effectively functioning Alumni. We arrange meeting occasionally. Cultural programmes and family get together also conducted along with the alumni meeting.
Many of our former students were placed in reputed positions. Many of our students were placed in leading visual as well as print media in Kerala. Also many were placed in government services as well as in private sector.
