The Ginger House was conceptualised in 2015 and officially launched on 03rd October 2018 with the financial support of Kerala State Council for Science Technology and Environment, Government of Kerala under the Major Research Project on ‘Ethnobotanical Studies on Zingiberaceae of Kerala’(029/SRSLS/2014/CSTE Dated 01.04.2016). The walking trail inside and outside the Ginger House will take you through the amazing world of gingers. An area of 0.25 acres showcases about 30 genera, 200 species, varieties and horticultural cultivars with more than 1200 accessions of the plants of the ginger order (Zingiberales). Ginger House is a conservatory for the wild, ethanobotanically and economically important species of Zingiberales including many medicinal plants and spices. Ginger House harbours plants from various localities of India and abroad. The species are organised according to their systematic position or plant uses and will be a resource for further research. It has been established for the live germplasm collection and reintroduction of wild varieties for creating scientific and public interest on Zingiberales.
