World Environment Day is celebrated today

 

World Environment Day is the United Nations' (UN) most important day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment. Since it began in 1974, it has grown to become a global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated in over 100 countries. World Environment Day is the"people's day" for doing something to take care of the Earth.Every World Environment Day has a different global host country, where the official celebrations take place. This year it is India.

The theme for the World Environment Day 2018, "Beat Plastic Pollution".

Our College,under the prime leadership of P.G & Research Department of Botany has conducted World Environment Day Celebrations at Mar Clemis Hall from 11.00 AM onwards.The first inaugural session started with the welcome speech of Dr.Philipose Omman(HOD-Botany & Bursar) and then the presidential address was delivered by Dr.Mathew P.Joseph(The College Principal).

The session was inaugurated by the Hon'ble Dist.Collector of Pathanamthitta,Mr.P.B.Nooh IAS.Each of them told that we need to do something effective in order to reduce the rate of climate change as well as save many natural resources for better life on the earth in future. 3R techniques (reduce, reuse and recycle) can be very effective in lessening the impact of our bad activities over natural ecosystem.

The benedictory address was delivered by H.G Kuriakose Mar Clemis Metropolitan(Metropolitan of Thumpamon Diocese & President,Ecological Commission of Malankara Orthodox Churches).Being a very good leader in training his disciples to be an eco-friendly man,H.G also added  a few words to reduce the use of plastics.The Keynote address was taken by H.G.Dr.Joseph Mar Dionysius Metropolitan(Diocese of Calcutta & Vice-President of Ecological Commission).He lectured to prevent plastic pollution and added Environment is precious to Life,Secure it for Life.

Rev.Fr.Jacob Kallichethu(Vice President,Ecological Commission,Thumpamon Diocese)gave the felicitation.He advised to be eco-friendly,GO GREEN.The programme Co-ordinator,Mrs.Hima.K.S delivered the Vote of Thanks.Following this,the second session  made the programme more colourful by the  lecture class of  Dr.Shaji Philip,Principal Scientist,RRII,Kottayam.Thus the programme made the day a memorable one.
