The Department of Computer Applications was established in 2013 with the glorious vision of developing technically competent and skilled intellectual professionals, to meet the ever growing challenges of the modern IT industry. This department is one of the young and blooming departments with a deep commitment to provide quality education in a dynamically engaging atmosphere. The department offers BCA (Bachelor of Computer Applications), a three-year bachelor degree program in the field of Computer Applications. The department has a full-fledged Computer laboratory with high-speed internet facility to provide the students with the necessary and sufficient backing of practical knowledge.
The department constantly invites eminent and successful professionals for seminars and awareness programme to share their their experience and expertise for the benefit of the students. The department conducted Cyber Security programme series to make the young generation aware of the various cyber threats prevailing in today’s world. International conference on Cyber Security was also organized to channelize the student’s career interests into the various realms of Cyber Security. Induction Programme -ESCALE in association with ASAP (Additional Skill Acquisition Programme), Kerala was organized in commemoration of 125th birth Anniversary of His Grace GeeVarghese Mar Philoxenos Metropolitan, for the first-year students , to help them build bonds with other students and faculty members and expose them to a sense of larger purpose and self exploration. The Department does not restrict itself to holding courses and programmes for academic purpose only. The department organized orientation program on “Discovering Civil Services” which enlightened the students about their career prospects in civil services also apart from computer field. The department organized Student Development Program on “PHP and MySQL” in collaboration with reputed institution like IIT-Bombay to help the students in their future endeavors and career advancement in web development.
The Department provides stimulating learning environment with technical orientation encouraging the students to develop novel applications that greatly benefit the netizens. The department is a leading innovator in Computer Applications field, spawning prestigious placements every year in leading IT firms across the world like Infosys, Wipro, TCS, Cognizant, Mindtree, Capgemini. 52 BCA students received 100% scholarship in ASAP KSkill Scholarship Exam (Govt. of Kerala) and has got the opportunity to attend a course on “Cyber Security” as part of this scholarship. The Department has exposed its students to community service to sensitize them towards their social responsibilities through various extension & outreach activities organized by NSS & other institutes. Jesly T Joseph (D3 BCA) has been awarded the Best NSS Volunteer of MG University for the year 2021-22. The department boasts of series of illustrious achievements in various Sports events like shooting, weight lifting, fencing etc at University and National levels. Yadhu S Vijay (D3 BCA) secured Gold Medal in Snap Shooting at All India Thal Sainik Camp, New Delhi in 2020.
